He entered the industry with Unchi Medina Uncha Mol in 1998 and, in the same year, played Ram in Govindbhai Patel's Desh Re Joya Dada Pardesh Joya, opposite Roma Manek as Radha, with Arvind Trivedi as the patriarch and music by Arvind Barot. The film runs 167 minutes and its plot is built on the one anxiety that could sell a ticket in any Gujarati town: a daughter married off to America and what happens to her once she is there.

Its infobox gross is Rs 22 crore, sourced to the Times of India, at a time when a ticket cost a few rupees. It is still cited as one of the highest grossing Gujarati films ever made, and it was remade in Telugu as Velugu Needalu in 1999. His second credited film was the commercial ceiling of an entire era.

Maiyar Ma Mandu Nathi Lagtu released on 27 June 2001, directed and produced by Jashwant Gangani, with Kumar as Ram and Aanandee Tripathi as Ratan. It was shot at Lucky Studios in Halol and in Rajpipla, on a reported budget of Rs 1.4 crore with a Rs 30 lakh set, and recorded in Dolby Digital, which in Gujarati cinema in 2001 was a statement rather than a spec.

It ran 52 weeks. Nine Gujarat State Film Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Story, Best Music Director, Best Lyrics, Best Editor and Best Comedian. The count is genuinely disputed: the film's own article says nine state awards plus two festival awards, his biography and the Gujarati cinema article both say eleven state awards, and nothing reconciles the two, so nine is what is stated here. Rajshri Productions bought the remake rights and made it in Bengali as Shubhodrishti and in Odia as Sasu Ghara Chalijibi. A remastered cut, 25 minutes shorter, went back into cinemas on 12 September 2025.

Then a decade of the films the new industry pretends did not happen. Me to Palavde Bandhi Preet, Ek Var Piyu Ne Malva Aavje, Mota Ghar Ni Vahu, Halo Manvyune Mele, Chundadi Odhado Ho Raj, Dikro Maro Ladakvayo, Kon Halave Limdi Ne Kon Zulave Pipli. Family drama titles that read like folk song lines because that is exactly what they were selling.

In 2014 and 2015 he hosted Crime Time, Fight Against Crime, a crime show on VTV Gujarati. That detail matters more than it looks. The urban Gujarati revival began in 2012 and did not call him for the better part of a decade, and the man who had carried its biggest ever grosser was on a regional news channel presenting reconstructions.

Krishnadev Yagnik cast him in Vash, released 17 February 2023, as Pratap, the stranger who takes control of a teenage girl and dismantles her family from the inside. It is the part the whole film runs on, and it is played almost entirely without raising a voice. Vash won Best Gujarati Feature Film at the 71st National Film Awards and Janki Bodiwala won Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

Shaitaan, the Hindi remake, opened on 8 March 2024 with R. Madhavan in his role, Ajay Devgn in Hitu Kanodia's and Jyothika in Niilam Paanchal's. It grossed a reported Rs 211 crore worldwide. Two of the three biggest names in that cast were hired to redo work he and his Gujarati colleagues had already delivered thirteen months earlier.

Vash Level 2 released on 27 August 2025 and gave him a dual role, Pratap and Pratap's brother Rajnath, with Hitu Kanodia back as Atharva, Janki Bodiwala back as Aarya and Monal Gajjar as a school principal. It reached Netflix in Gujarati and Hindi on 22 October 2025. The recent list around it is dense: Dhuandhaar in 2021, Raado in 2022, Aagantuk and Welcome Purnima in 2023, Chupp, Trisha On The Rocks and The Great Gujarati Matrimony in 2024, Taaro Thayo and Mithada Maheman in 2025.

Here is the part worth sitting with. When the WTG list of best Gujarati actors was built in July 2026, he was cut from it, not on merit but because no free licensed photograph of him exists and the entry would have shipped as a blank. A man with a reported Rs 22 crore hit, a 52 week run, a National Award winning film and 259,959 Instagram followers is difficult to illustrate. That is not a gap in his career. It is a gap in the way this industry keeps its own records.
