Almost every Gujarati lead of the last decade eventually faces the same fork: protect the regional career or chase the national one. Choosing one usually means quietly losing the other, because both industries prefer people who are available. Deeksha Joshi's answer has been to keep two calendars and let the arithmetic settle the argument. Seventeen features between 2017 and 2025, five of them in 2025 alone, split across Gujarati and Hindi, plus a Hindi daily soap she took over mid-run. She never announced a crossover. She just never stopped working in either place.
The arc
01Three films in the first year
She came out of an English Literature degree at St. Xavier's in Ahmedabad and into Amit Barot's Shubh Aarambh in 2017. Krishnadev Yagnik's Karsandas Pay & Use followed the same year, and so did Colorbaaj. Three releases in a debut year is not normal anywhere.
It was possible because 2017 was the year Gujarati cinema had more production slots than it had trained leads. Anyone who could hold a frame was booked. The interesting thing is not that she got three films. It is that she was still working at that rate eight years later, when the shortage was long over.
02The two that were not comedies
Sharato Lagu in 2018, Neeraj Joshi's remake of the Marathi film Chi Va Chi Sau Ka, put her opposite Malhar Thakar as Savitri and reported a gross of around Rs 17.5 crore. It won her Best Actress at the Gujarati Iconic Film Awards that year.
Dhunki in 2019 is the more important one. Anish Shah's film casts her as Shreya, one half of a pair trying to get a startup off the ground opposite Pratik Gandhi, and it is a drama about work, which almost nothing in Gujarati cinema at the time was. It brought the Critics' Choice Film Award for Best Actress in Gujarati in 2020. A young actress in a booming comedy market taking a film about a business plan is a choice, not a job.
03Two industries, no announcement
The Hindi work started without a press cycle. 376 D in 2020, a courtroom drama she described to the Times of India as being about a law that does not exist. Jayeshbhai Jordaar in 2022 for Yash Raj Films, directed by Divyang Thakkar with Ranveer Singh leading, a film that received mixed reviews and failed at the box office. Neither made her a Hindi name.
What is notable is that neither cost her the Gujarati one. In the same stretch she did Luv Ni Love Storys in 2020 in the title role, Fakt Mahilao Maate in 2022 at a reported Rs 20 crore, Vaahlam Jaao Ne opposite Pratik Gandhi, and Lakiro in 2023. Most actors treat the Bombay attempt as a burning of ships. She treated it as a second shift.
042025, when the arithmetic became visible
Five features in one year. Kaashi Raaghav in January, Abhishek Shah's Umbarro, in which she is one of seven women carrying an ensemble with no male lead above them and which reported between Rs 13.3 and Rs 17 crore, and Naankhatai, all in Gujarati. Kaushaljis vs Kaushal and Shazia Iqbal's Dhadak 2 in Hindi. Then, from December 2025, Deepti Parikh Patel in Sony SAB's Pushpa Impossible, a role she took over from another actor in a running daily.
Her verified Instagram, scraped on 29 July 2026 with 253,332 followers, lists three things in order: actor, a separate account for poems and thoughts, and co-founder of Eight Winds Productions. Taking over an established character in a daily soap is the single least glamorous decision available to a film lead with a Critics' Choice award on the shelf. It is also the clearest evidence of what she actually optimises for, which is the work rather than the position.
The work that matters
Not her biggest opening and not her most quoted film. It is the one where the character has a job, a business and a problem that is not romantic, and it is the only performance of hers that a critics' jury has formally cited.
The only true ensemble on her filmography, carried by seven women with no male star above the title. Abhishek Shah's first Gujarati feature after Hellaro was also the hardest kind of film to sell, and it still reported up to Rs 17 crore.
Chosen precisely because it is television and a replacement role. Film leads treat a daily soap as a demotion. She took over Deepti Parikh Patel from Garima Parihar in a running show in December 2025, in the same year she released five features.
